Can Dogs Eat Salsa?

ModerateUsually Contains Onion

Most salsa recipes include onion as a base ingredient, alongside chilli, making this a food to avoid rather than share.

Why

Onion is close to universal in salsa recipes, and the chilli content adds separate GI irritation on top of that. There's no compelling reason to offer this to a dog given both concerns.

How to serve it safely

  • Avoid sharing salsa, even a small taste
  • If a dog eats a meaningful portion of salsa, consider it an onion exposure and monitor accordingly
