Can Dogs Eat Rye?

SafeCooked, Plain

Yes. Cooked rye grain or plain rye bread in small amounts is safe for dogs.

Why

Rye carries no toxicity concern for dogs. As with any bread, the concern shifts to raw dough (see our bread page) rather than the grain itself.

Serving tips

  • Plain, cooked rye or baked rye bread in small amounts is fine
  • Never offer raw, unbaked rye dough — see our bread dough page
