Can Dogs Eat Rosemary?

SafeSmall Amounts

Yes. Rosemary is safe for dogs in small amounts and is a common ingredient in some commercial dog foods as a natural preservative.

Why

Rosemary carries no toxicity concern at normal culinary quantities. There's an old, largely debunked myth linking rosemary to seizures in epileptic dogs; current veterinary consensus does not support this as a significant real-world risk at normal food quantities.

Serving tips

  • A small sprig or sprinkle in a homemade meal is fine
  • If your dog has a seizure disorder, mention any dietary herbs to your vet as routine practice, though the historical concern here is not well supported
