Can Dogs Eat Mint?

SafeSmall Amounts

Yes. Fresh mint in small amounts is safe for dogs and is even used in some dental chews for breath freshening.

Why

Mint carries no toxicity concern for dogs. Mint essential oil is more concentrated and should be avoided, but the fresh herb in food-level quantities is fine.

Serving tips

  • A few fresh leaves, chopped, is a reasonable amount
  • Avoid mint essential oil or concentrated extracts
  • Peppermint specifically is well tolerated in the same small quantities
