Can Dogs Eat Marmite / Bovril?

ModerateVery Small Amounts Only

A very small amount of Marmite or Bovril is generally low risk, but both are extremely concentrated in salt and B vitamins, so portions need to be genuinely tiny, not a normal serving.

Why

These yeast/beef extract spreads are formulated to be used sparingly on toast precisely because of how concentrated they are — the sodium content per gram is notably high, and a 'normal' human serving is already a small amount by design.

How to serve it safely

  • If sharing at all, use a tiny smear, far less than a human serving
  • Not a necessary treat — there's no compelling reason to offer it
  • Avoid for dogs with heart or kidney conditions requiring salt restriction
