Can Dogs Eat Mango?

ModerateFlesh Only, No Pit

Mango flesh in small amounts is fine occasionally, but the pit is a genuine hazard and the fruit is high in natural sugar.

Why

The flesh itself carries no toxicity concern, but mango pits are large, hard, and a serious choking and intestinal obstruction risk — this is the main real-world danger with mango. The fruit is also fairly high in sugar, so portions should stay small.

How to serve it safely

  • Always remove the pit completely before offering any mango
  • Peel first — the skin can be difficult to digest
  • Small cubes only, as an occasional treat
  • Watch for signs of obstruction (vomiting, straining, lethargy) if a pit is swallowed
