Can Dogs Eat Eggs?

SafeCooked Preferred

Yes. Cooked eggs are safe and a good source of protein for dogs. Raw eggs carry a small salmonella risk and can interfere with biotin absorption if fed very regularly.

Why

Cooked eggs carry no toxicity concern and are a genuinely good protein source. Raw eggs carry the same bacterial contamination risk as raw poultry generally, and raw egg whites specifically contain avidin, a protein that can bind biotin — a real consideration only with frequent, regular raw egg feeding rather than occasional exposure.

Serving tips

  • Cooking (scrambled, boiled, plain) is the lower-risk option
  • If feeding raw as part of a supervised diet, source carefully and don't overdo frequency
  • No seasoning, butter, or salt when preparing eggs for your dog
