Can Dogs Eat Cookies / Biscuits?

ModerateDepends Entirely on Ingredients

Plain biscuits in small amounts are generally low risk, but many contain chocolate, raisins, macadamia nuts, or xylitol — always check before sharing.

Why

As with cake, the risk profile for cookies depends almost entirely on the specific recipe. Chocolate chip, oatmeal-raisin, and macadamia cookies each carry a distinct toxin risk from the same base category. This is one of the more common sources of accidental toxic exposure precisely because cookies look interchangeable from the outside.

How to serve it safely

  • Check for chocolate, raisins, macadamia nuts, and xylitol before sharing any biscuit
  • Plain digestive or shortbread-style biscuits without these ingredients are lower risk in small amounts
  • Store biscuit tins out of reach — this is a common counter-surfing target
