Can Dogs Eat Beetroot?

SafeCooked, Plain

Yes. Cooked, plain beetroot is safe for dogs in moderation.

Why

Beetroot carries no toxicity concern. It can temporarily discolour urine or stool, which is harmless but can look alarming if you're not expecting it.

Serving tips

  • Serve cooked and plain, without added salt, vinegar, or sugar
  • Small portions only — it's fairly high in natural sugar for a vegetable
  • Don't be alarmed by reddish stool or urine after a serving — this is harmless
