Can Dogs Eat Kombucha?

ModerateSmall Amounts Only

A small amount of plain kombucha is generally low risk for most healthy dogs, but its trace alcohol content from fermentation and caffeine (from the tea base) both warrant caution.

Why

Kombucha is a fermented tea, and fermentation naturally produces small amounts of alcohol alongside the tea's inherent caffeine content. Neither is typically at a dangerous level in a small taste, but this isn't a drink worth intentionally sharing given both considerations stack.

How to serve it safely

  • If sharing at all, a very small amount, occasionally
  • Avoid flavoured varieties with added sugar
  • Not a necessary drink for dogs — plain water is always the better default
